There’s been a growing issue with China, one of America’s biggest trading partners, and that’s stealing America’s intellectual property.

US Senator Charles Grassley says there have been talks with Chinese government officials in hopes of getting a process started to have China comply with the standards of the World Trade Organization (WTO). “They’ve got to follow the rules and laws of trade that are international, that are respected by everybody, that are predictable and you have economic growth as a result of it, but they aren’t doing that.”

Grassley describes how bad it’s gotten with the Chinese government stealing American intellectual property. “Stealing your intellectual property, or if you’re going to be business there, you’ve got to promise to share your secrets with them, and they steal our trademarks, and cheat on our products-like Nike as an example-it’s just not right. It’s costly to our economy.”

US Congressman Steve King explains how much the American economy is affected by what the Chinese government is doing. “It’s $300 billion or more a year. If we can put an end to them stealing the creativity of this free enterprise Western civilization country America, that’s worth a lot and it’s probably worth more than the rest of the trade deal altogether.”

Grassley adds that President Donald Trump is the only one who has authority to make a decision on the issue with China.
