A reminder that the Market-to-Market Relay is happening today.

The first wave of runners started at 6am in Jefferson and are expected to continue, going off in 20-minute increments, until 10am. The route is on the Raccoon River Valley Trail and it ends in downtown Des Moines. This is the sixth annual event with Pink Gorilla Events and it has grown to 350, seven-person teams. Jefferson Mayor Craig Berry says he enjoys working with Pink Gorilla because they are so efficient at running this event.

“What’s good about is they’ll come and set up Friday morning, they set up for their registrations and stuff up in front of the courthouse. And by 10:30(am) on Saturday, they’re gone. They clean up after themselves, they do a good job, they bring their own porta potties. It really is a well-oiled machine.”

The 3,000 participants come from across the state and country. Runners will be going along the 75-mile course on the Raccoon River Valley Trail. Motorists are urged to use caution if driving across intersections of the bike trail, to help keep the runners safe.
