The 2018 Iowa Legislative Session adjourned earlier this month and outgoing Representative Clel Baudler discussed some final thoughts on the proceedings with Raccoon Valley Radio.
A key focus in this year’s session was the budget. Baudler tells Raccoon Valley Radio he would like to see a change made in the budgeting process, specifically in regards to logistics for the Revenue Estimating Council. “I think that is imperative that we should enlarge that group from three to five people and maybe have a little more idea of what the rural farm economy is doing right now. Almost every farm product below the cost of production, that’s affected our revenue coming in and the Revenue Estimating Council has missed that so bad in the last few years. That council needs to be changed. That would improve the budgeting system in Iowa.”
Baudler’s most successful piece of legislation was a bill banning drones being able to fly over correctional facilities. While it wasn’t a stand-alone bill, it was added to the Justice System Appropriations Bill. Throughout the session he voiced his support for other various pieces of legislation including tax reform and the Fetal Heartbeat bill.
