This coming Monday is Memorial Day, and the City of Adel reminds residents of holiday services and rules for decorating at Oakdale Cemetery.

The American Legion Post 464 will conduct a remembrance ceremony Monday starting at 9 a.m. The service will be held near the Oakdale Cemetery flagpole. If there is inclement weather, the event will be moved to the old middle school gymnasium. As far as decorating graves is concerned, the window to do so is from Friday, May 25th through Sunday, June 3rd. The following Monday, the City will resume mowing the cemetery, and flowers and other items left on graves will be disposed of.

As a reminder, permanent plantings such as trees and bushes must be approved by the City. Annual and perennial flowers may be planted directly in line with the stone, but no other sod displacement is permitted. Anyone with questions is encouraged to reach out to City Hall at 515-993-4525.
