acgcThe ACGC baseball and softball teams opened up their home schedule last night against their rival to the south, the West Central Valley Wildcats. The Wildcat baseball team spoiled the Chargers home debut, defeating ACGC 8-2.

The top three in the Wildcat batting order did the majority of the damage for WCV. Their leadoff hitter, junior Cole Arnburg, is still perfect at the dish this season. In their opening night win over Glidden-Ralston, Arnburg went 3-3 with two runs and two stolen bases. He kept it going last night with a 4-4 performance with four runs scored.

The Wildcats got out to a 6-0 start through the first five innings, with freshman Drew Taylor driving in two of those six runs. That was more than enough for Carson Wadle, who struck out seven Charger batters, allowing just one hit and no runs in four innings of work.

The Chargers’ two lone runs were scored in the bottom of the sixth by Quenton Spack and Logan Brinks. The Wildcats neutralized those two runs with two more of their own in the top of the seventh off a Drew Taylor double. Arnburg sealed the deal with two strikeouts in the bottom half of the frame as the Wildcat closer, sending the Chargers to their second loss in two attempts. Wadle picks up the win, the first in his career, and Caden Wardyn takes the loss.

The Charger softball team continued their strong start to the season with a 12-2 win over the Wildcats. ACGC baseball falls to 0-2 while the softball team improves to 2-0. Both teams will be at Woodward-Granger tomorrow night. First pitch for the Charger baseball game is at 6:30pm and can be heard live on KKRF2 and the Racoon Valley Radio Network.
