DSCN8592Water balloon fights are typically a childhood favorite for many and Greene County Elementary students took it to a new level Tuesday.

The entire student body earned the opportunity to throw water balloons at some of the faculty and staff of the elementary school, including Principal Scott Johnson. Johnson told Raccoon Valley Radio that the idea came from custodian Marcia Roeder to incentivize kids with lunch room challenges.

“End of the year kids are getting antsy, a little bit noiser, a little bit messier. And Marcia just put a challenge out there to them and asked if I’d be willing to be apart of that and I said sure. And if they get enough points at the end of the year, which we kind of guaranteed they would, they would get to throw water balloons at myself, the custodians, and the cooks and Mrs. (Teresa) Skalla.”DSCN8629

And when the big moment came at the end of the school day on Tuesday, the students waisted very little time unloading their water balloons. Johnson added that everyone is involved when they come up with creative ways to make students be successful, not only in school, but in life as well.

“I’ve got a great team of people working here. They just come up with the ideas and they say, ‘Hey do you want to?’ And I say sure. Everybody has to be involved. A lot of people think it’s just the teachers, but it’s not. We’re a community here, everybody, the associates, the teachers, the custodians, cooks and all of the staff, all are working hard to make our kids better.”

There were over 450 water balloons thrown by the students.
