The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.
A contentious discussion took place about the Council considering to move a house from 305 West State Street to 407 West Lincoln Way. Several public comments were made on both sides. The main concerns from the public were that the house would be an “eyesore,” not a financially good decision for the City and possibly creating a negative situation like what happened years ago with bad tenants in the then rental space. Comments that were in favor of it included saving a Victoria-style home, fitting in the with look of the neighborhood and having a potential buyer lined up. Following the discussion, the Council voted three to two against the motion to accept the house. The “no” votes were Councilpersons Larry Teeples, Dave Sloan and Matt Gordon. With the Council voting against the project, that negated the next agenda item which was to consider a contract to move the home.
The Council approved budget amendments for the 2017-18 fiscal year as presented, a quarterly funding request for Greene County Development Corporation and appointing Mary Jane Fields and Dr. Susan Laehn to the Jefferson Library Board of Trustees. Additionally, the Council approved a letter of intent to transfer 506 and 507 East Clark Street to Region XII Council Governments for a grant application and a fireworks permit for Wild Rose Casino and Resorts. The meeting ended with a quarterly update with Jefferson Matters: Main Street.
