Jefferson Municipal PoolAs the school year winds down, that means the summer season draws closer, and so does pool season.

The Jefferson Municipal Pool will open for the season this Saturday. Adult lap swim takes place from 11:30am to 1pm and then the pool is open to everyone from 1 to 8pm. Family hour is from 5:30 to 6:30pm, and adults must accompany their children. Jefferson Parks and Recreation Director Vicky Lautner encourages people with sensitive feet to wear swim shoes this summer. She says parts of the floor of the pool have pitted and are considered to be “rough.”

“What ACCO said was when they painted it (over a year ago) the paint that was left on the pool floor from what we had originally painted, it was breaking loose and it was taking some concrete with it, and also possibly some of the solutions that we use to clean the pool may have caused some problems. They’re not sure.”

Lautner notes that the pool is safe to use, but again encourages those was sensitive feet to use swim shoes when in the pool. She adds that they have free swim shoes available, on a first-come first-served basis, at the pool as well. Lautner says ACCO has repaired the worst spots in the pool and they will be back to finish the project this fall after the pool closes for the year.
