acgcThe ACGC softball and baseball teams tangled with the Madrid Tigers in a pair of doubleheaders. Unfortunately for the gold and black, the Tigers came away victorious in all four games last night.

The Charger softball team dropped both of their games in nail biters. ACGC fell behind early in game one after a couple infield errors. Back-to-back home runs by Mady Kelsey and Genevieve Hoover gave the Chargers their first lead of the game in the bottom of the third. The two teams exchanged runs through the fifth inning, after which the teams were tied at eight each. Game one went to extra innings, with the Tigers getting the winning run off an RBI double by winning pitcher Erica Bruns for a final score of 9-8.

Game two saw another see-saw battle that extended past 10pm. Senior MaKayla Hoing led the Chargers with two hits, an RBI, and a stolen base to keep the game close. The big play came in the bottom of the fifth when Madrid’s Morgan Bruns launched the ball over the wall for a two-run homer. ACGC would even it up in the top of the sixth with runs by Sierra O’Brien and Hoing. The game was still tied going into the bottom of the seventh when the Tigers’ Courtney Wilson avoided the tag-out at home to secure the second win of the night for the Madrid Tigers softball team with a final score of 6-5.

The Chargers drop to 3-3 (2-2) on the season while the Tigers improve to 3-2 (2-1). The ACGC baseball teams also dropped both to the Tigers, falling 17-0 in game one and 11-2 in game two.
