voteOver the next few days we’ll be giving an overview of the candidates running for county and state offices in contested races for Tuesday’s primary election.

Today we focus on the two candidates running for the District Four Office of the Guthrie County Supervisors. This office will have a new Supervisor, as current representative Tom Rutledge has decided not to seek another term. The two candidates running for the seat are J.D. Kuster and Dana Tews, both from Guthrie Center.

Kuster, a Guthrie County resident for 60 years, tells Raccoon Valley Radio his reason for running. “I asked myself that question as to why I’m seeking the position of Guthrie County Supervisor. Reflecting on this question led me to the conclusion that I have a desire to serve others, and one of my attributes is that I would rather serve than to be served.”

Tews, a former Marine and current Iowa State Trooper, gives his reason for running. “I’ve been a public servant for 34 years with being a police officer and in the Marine Corps. I have a huge vested interest in the well-being of this community…I’ve protected my country, protected this state, this county, and I want to continue to give that back to the community.”

Both Kuster and Tews highlighted economic development and bringing graduates back to the county as areas of focus if elected. Both were also featured on Raccoon Valley Radio’s Special Edition Primary Election Meet The Candidates In Depth News Magazine.
