The Greene County high school baseball and softball teams both suffered late inning Heart of Iowa Activities Conference losses at Nevada Friday night. Softball’s final was 7-4 while baseball ended with a score of 8-7.

Coach Tom Kennedy’s softball team fell to 2-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference while Nevada won for the first time in four games this season. The Cubs led 3-0 before the Rams scored four times in the fifth for a 4-3 lead. Greene County wasn’t ahead very long, however, as Nevada tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, then took the lead back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The Rams had 12 hits and two errors with the Cubs getting 11 hits and making three miscues.

Megan Carey and Lilly Muir each went three for three at the plate. Carmen Paup tripled, singled, and drove in two runs, with Danielle Hoyle collecting a double, single, and one RBI. Jenna Beyers also drove in a run, and Samantha Hardaway and Laurin Lyons each added singles.

The Greene County girls are in the Bondurnat-Farrar tournament at 9 a.m. today vs. Pleasantville at the B-F middle school.

In baseball, Nevada’s Trent Stahl had four hits, including the game winner in the bottom of the seventh to break a 7-7 tie. Austin Delp pitched the first 5-1/3 for the Rams and Wade Adcock took the loss in relief. Delp gave up the first seven runs, three earned, on nine hits and three walks. He fanned six Cubs. Adcock took the loss, giving up one run on two hits and two walks. He had one strikeout.

Delp and Tyler Teeples each had three this for Greene County. The hits and runs were both season highs. Temples, Delp, and Ben Wilkins each had a double with runs batted in by Brent Riley, Delp, Jordan Patterson, Bryce Hoyle, and Adcock.

Nevada used two pitchers and they combined for just one strikeout, but walked no one.

The game was tight all the way with the scored tied 4-4 after two innings, tied 5-5 after five, and knotted at 7-7 after six. Each team had two errors with the Rams getting 12 hits and the Cubs 11.

Coach John Hupp’s Rams have lost four straight games and are 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the HOIAC while the Cubs improved to 4-2 on the season.
