Today is Primary Election Day, and Dallas County voters are encouraged to head out to the polls to choose who will be representing their party in the November general election.
There are several contested races in Dallas County, ranging from County Supervisors to the Iowa House of Representatives, and also for Governor and U.S. Congress. Voters will be able to choose which party’s ballot they would like to vote on, whether it be Democrat, Libertarian, or Republican. Candidates must receive 35% of their party’s vote in the primary to win the nomination for the general election. If no single candidate reaches that mark, a nominee will be chosen at the party’s upcoming convention. You can find a full list of candidates below.
The polls will be open today from 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. As a reminder, new voter identification laws are being rolled out this year, so you need to bring an approved form of ID with you, as well as proof of residence if you are registering at the polls. However, Dallas County Auditor Julia Helm reminds voters that no one will be turned away, though they will have to fill out additional forms. Helm also encourages people to double-check their precinct location. If you are unsure of your precinct, you can find out by clicking the link below. You can also find a list of all Dallas County polling sites.
Make sure to listen to Raccoon Valley Radio tonight for full primary election results after the polls close.
