According to the County Auditor’s office, the lone local contested race in the Republican Party was for Iowa House District 47. Candidate Phil Thompson of Jefferson unofficially won with 74-percent of the vote with 323 of the 432 ballots that were cast. Victoria Sinclair of Boone was second with 16-percent and Don Batt of Boone was third with only eight-percent.

Other contested Republican primaries were for US Congressional District 4 with incumbent Steve King winning over challenger Cyndi Hanson with 80-percent of the vote. The Secretary of Agriculture had a tie between two candidates. Incumbent Mike Naig and challenger Craig Lang each received 149 votes unofficially. According to County Auditor Jane Heun, her office doesn’t declare winners for state-level offices. The Secretary of State’s office will declare a winner of that race. Other local Republican winners include: incumbents Dawn Rudolph for Supervisor District 2, Tom Contner for Supervisor District 3 and County Treasurer candidate Katlynn Gannon-Mechaelsen, each ran unopposed.

As for the Democratic races, the unofficial winner in Greene County for US Congressional District 4 is JD Scholten with 54-percent of the vote, while Leann Jacobsen received 27-percent and Dr. John Paschen had 17-percent. Other contested Democratic races were for governor and Secretary of State. Governor candidate Fred Hubbell was the unofficial winner in Greene County with nearly 66-percent, while John Norris had 14-percent. Secretary of State candidate Jim Mowrer defeated candidate Deidre DeJear with 67-percent of the vote. All local races were uncontested for County Treasurer with incumbent Donna Lawson, County Recorder Marcia Tasler and David Weaver for Iowa House District 47 easily winning.

In the Libertarian Party, there was only one local candidate for County Attorney and that was Thomas Laehn, who received all 17 votes. There was one contested race for governor and Jake Porter defeated Marco Battaglia in Greene County with 57-percent.

The County Auditor’s office reports that there was 967 ballots cast of the 6,595 registered voters for a 14.66-percent voter turnout. The results remain unofficial until the County Board of Supervisors canvass the votes. For the full results, click the link below.
