ADM Tigers

Fresh off Monday’s late-inning rally to upset No. 1 Winterset (8-4 overall; 2-1 RRC), the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers softball team (13-1 overall; 3-0 RRC) hits the road again tonight for another top 10 matchup inside the Raccoon River Conference. The No. 10 ranked Tigers pay a visit to Carlisle High School tonight for a league showdown versus No. 4 Wildcats (9-4 overall; 4-0 RRC). The winner of tonight’s game takes over sole possession of first place in the Raccoon River Conference standings.

The ADM Tigers capitalized on a Huskies’ throwing error with two outs in the bottom half of the seventh inning to overtake No. 1 Winterset, 5-2. Tied 2-2 in the final inning of regulation, sophomore Morgan Meyer’s hustle down the first base line to force a wild throw and kept the inning alive. Sophomore Abbie Hlas produced a single the following at-bat, and sophomore Sierra Wyant drove her two classmates in on a three run homerun over the six-foot fence in left field. On Monday’s Fullers Petroleum Postgame show, ADM head softball coach Rick Dillinger shouted out to the players on his bench. “Our kids have such an enthusiasm for their teammates (both on and off the field),” Dillinger said, “The chemistry we have right now (is great), the kids are so close and so tight. What that does is rub off into the game, it helps us have that big inning (offensively).”

The Carlisle Wildcats opened their Raccoon River Conference competition week by topping the Perry Bluejays Monday, 10-5. The Wildcats join the Tigers as the only teams inside the Raccoon River Conference without a loss inside the league. Two of Carlisle’s four losses have come against Class 5A No. 8 Indianola (10-2 overall), including a 3-0 setback this weekend at the West Des Moines Valley Shootout tournament.

The Raccoon Valley Radio Network will provide live play by play coverage of the varsity softball game on True Country K 107.9 with pregame comments starting at 7 p.m. and first pitch at 7:30 p.m.
