You know that summer has arrived when cities begin having their yearly celebrations, and this weekend there are a few spread all around Dallas County.
The first is the annual Grimes Governors Days Celebration, which kicked off festivities last night. Tonight’s activities will begin with the Bill Riley Talent show, running from 4-7 p.m on the main stage, followed by live music by the Punching Pandas. Tomorrow the events begin at 6:30 a.m. with the Grimes Lions Club Pancake Breakfast at the community complex. The Governors Days Grande Parade will run from 10 a.m. – noon, and there will be an assortment of games and activities the rest of the day. The celebration will culminate with evening performances by Awakening Force and Monkey Monkey Monkey. Throughout both days, there will be food vendors, a carnival, and a beer garden.
Also starting today and running through tomorrow, the City of Woodward is hosting their annual Friends & Neighbors Days. Tonight’s activities begin at 5 p.m. with the Christian Church beef-burger supper, followed by the golf cart parade, and concluding with a movie in the park, showing “Ferdinand.” Tomorrow is a full day of events, starting with the social center breakfast from 7-9 a.m. The parade will begin at 11, followed by the Lion’s Lunch at the fire station. Other events include the pie auction at 12:15 p.m., the Little Miss Woodward Pageant at 12:45, music by Buffalo Gap from 2-5, and fireworks at 9:45. Additionally, there will be inflatables, a petting zoo, tournaments, and a car show throughout the day.
Finally, Dallas County Hospital is hosting their annual Free Health Fair tomorrow at the Perry Hy-Vee from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Attendees will learn about healthy living from the Hy-Vee Health Mobile, learn about insurance benefits, get free blood pressure tests, and speak to medical professionals. Additionally, the Raccoon Valley Radio Little Big Red Radio will be at the Health Fair broadcasting live, playing music, and giving public address announcements.
