StuartThe Stuart City Council met in regular session Monday.

The Council reviewed the recommendations from the Hotel/Motel Tax Committee for annual funding. The list of organizations requesting funding included: the Stuart Chamber of Commerce, Scoop the Loop, the Stuart American Legion for the town skating rink, the Project Restore Foundation, and the Stuart Depot Committee. Council Member Mick Askren felt that some worthy organizations or causes were not listed and wanted to give the Council more time to add to the list. The Council tabled the release of funds until the next meeting.

The Council then approved an amendment to the City’s Urban Renewal Plan in regards to funding certain projects with Tax Increment Financing (TIF). The projects include: construction of interior and exterior improvements in an existing commercial building, construction of a new agribusinesses/sale barn building, Hotel Stuart renovations, and Karl Chevrolet’s expansion plans.

Other action items approved include: the sale of the property at 408 South Gaines Street to Cardinal Homes LLC out of Earlham, the monthly code enforcement report with one modification, a committee to examine City employee wages on an individual basis, annual cigarette permits, and a temporary road closure for an event in August.
