Senior Ben Wilkins tossed a five innings, two hit shut out, and the offense and defense were both clicking as Greene County blanked Saydel (Des Moines) in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball in Jefferson on Wednesday night. Coach John Hupp’s Rams improved to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the conference while the Eagles fell to 9-4 and 4-2. Saydel won the first meeting between the two last month in Des Moines by a 3-1 score.

Wilkins struck out two and walked four in five innings of work. Both Saydel hits were singles, and the Eagles were charged with four errors. The Rams played errorless defense behind their right hander, and the offense totaled nine hits. Nick Breon has been on a hitting tear in recent games and the sophomore went three for three with two doubles and a single, two runs batted in, and a run scored. Wilkins and Wade Adcock also doubled, and Jordan Patterson singled twice. Wilkins knocked in three runs with one RBI for Austin Delp and Tom Gannon. Those two both singled.

Greene County stays at home tonight at Allensworth Field to host non-conference opponent Bondurant-Farrar.
