Before hitting the field on Monday for two games versus Carroll, the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers baseball team was near the top of the Raccoon River Conference in strikeouts recorded at the plate. ADM’s 99 strikeouts entering the week are tied with the Ballard Bombers for the second most in the league. Only the Bondurant-Farrar Bluejays had more than the Tigers and Bombers collectively with 124 fanned batters. On Monday’s Around the Bases program, ADM head baseball coach Jason Book discussed his team’s need to improve their approach at the plate with a two-strike count. “(It’s) starting to get better for some guys, (a) couple of guys haven’t bought all the way in yet,” Book said, “When we get runners in scoring position and two outs, and two strikes, we really have to be able to battle and grind and get the ball in play. ”
ADM got five innings deep in game one versus the Carroll Tigers before heavy rains stopped play. Falling behind 7-0 after the first inning, ADM scored 15 unanswered runs for a 15-7 victory. ADM produced their runs on 14 hits compared to four strikeouts. A makeup date for game two is being discussed between the school districts at this time. The ADM Tiger baseball team resumes their season tonight in Pleasant Hill against the Southeast Polk Rams.
