Perry Economic Development, Incorporated (PEDI), is preparing to unveil a new speculative building to the public. However, before they do that, they wanted to give a sneak preview of the facility to its industrial complex neighbors and members of the PEDI Board, which happened last Friday.
The spec building is around 30,000-square-feet, located on about five acres of land with additional expansion available. PEDI Representative Terry Nielsen says they hope to have the initial construction completed within the next two months, at which time they can start to market it to businesses looking to move into Perry or relocate from elsewhere in the City. Nielsen feels confident they could have an occupant before the end of this calendar year.
While pessimists could consider the spec building a case of putting the horse before the cart, Nielsen says when it comes to attracting businesses things can move very quickly. With that in mind, PEDI felt it was necessary to have a versatile facility ready to go for any potential buyer. “We feel by having this building up and ready — it can be customized by a new business coming in — that we will be a more attractive target for many of these new businesses that are wanting to relocate or wanting to come to Perry. So the big thing is, it is a risk sometimes when you put up a building, (because) there is cost associated. But what we’re feeling now, what we’re hearing from most of our people is once a building’s up, it doesn’t take too long to get occupied or sold.”
The Perry Industrial Park is currently occupied by Percival Scientific, ITC Midwest, and Hy-Line International, and each had representatives at the private unveiling of the spec building. PEDI will be hosting a public unveiling and ribbon cutting some time soon, once the facility is complete.
