On Sunday the Stuart Community wrapped up another rendition of a summer tradition. The 2018 Good Egg Days featured plenty of familiar activities as well as some new ones. On Friday evening, several annual honors were bestowed on Stuart community members, including: Grand Marshall- Karl Moyer; Citizen of the Year- Eric Tiernan; Father of the Year- Joe Dwyer; and the Litter Sinker/Stinkette: Ashton Wahler and Sloan Hunsaker.
Saturday began with the 5k run/walk and slow-pitch softball tournament. The parade rolled through late Saturday morning and ushered in an afternoon of food, games, and other entertainment. The entertainment included a competitive Sprout division at the Bill Riley Talent Show. Since the first and second place finishers have already qualified for this year’s competition at the State Fair in Des Moines, third place finisher Laura Steinkamp of Wall Lake, who sang a medley from “The King and I,” took the Good Egg Days qualifying spot.
Saturday’s entertainment also featured Mark Hanson, the Guinness Book of World Records record holder for speed juggling, and his family of jugglers and unicyclists. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio how the family business got started. “I taught myself how to juggle when I was sixteen and I went in the Air Force and learned some more…Then I got married and we started having kids and then one of my kids, the oldest daughter at the time, she taught herself how to unicycle and I wanted to learn how to unicycle.”
The weekend ended with tractor pulls at the Stuart Speedway on Sunday. To see a photo album from the weekend, visit Raccoon Valley Radio’s Facebook page.
