acgcThe Guthrie Center School Board met in regular session Monday.

The Board approved several personnel changes. Among them was the official resignation timeline of current Superintendent Steve Smith. Smith will retire from Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center schools effective June 30th, 2019. Alternative School Instructor Ethan Lensch was also promoted to Activities Director. He will take the place of Jake Mohling, who has accepted the Principal position at Woodward-Granger Middle School. Finally, AC/GC’s newest Head Football Coach, Cody Matthewson, was named the next Head Boys Track and Field Coach.

The Board also approved a proposal to share soccer with Panorama for the 2018-2019 school year. The sharing agreement is subject to Panorama District approval and shared 28E agreements between the two districts. This past year the Chargers were part of a co-op with West Central Valley and Nodaway Valley. Other action items approved by the Board include: an insurance package from State Street Insurance for $84,806, including an additional $1,464.50 for Cyber Liability and Cyber Crime coverage; a ten-cent increase to adult meal prices and no changes to student meal prices; a Cafeteria 125 plan with American Fidelity Assurance Company; and a 65-passenger bus purchase for $86,974.

The meeting concluded with Board Member Wanda Knobbe being nominated as a delegate to the Heartland Area Education Agency District Director Convention and a review of academic test scores. The next meeting will be a joint session with the Adair-Casey School Board on Wednesday, July 18th.
