As summer moves along, the Panorama Community School District continues to examine security. The school began security enhancements by installing a buzz-in entrance system on both the elementary and secondary buildings. That project should be complete in the next few days. The district has also tested out various technologies and equipment aimed at strengthening security in the classrooms, specifically on classroom doors. However, there doesn’t seem to be a clear option moving forward.
Superintendent Shawn Holloway explains the reason behind the challenges. “It’s been a bit of a challenge just because our buildings have been added onto a few different times. Some devices will work if a door swings in, but not out and really we’re still in the middle of that. The first samples that I received I don’t think we’ll ultimately probably implement. You want something that’s uniform for everyone.”
At this point Holloway says they might have to just re-key the rooms for now and continue to test different options to find a solution that works best for them. The enhancements are not in response to any particular threat or incident at the school, they were a part of the school’s current five-year plan for long-term projects.
