A toddler from Perry died Tuesday, following a weekend drowning incident at Big Creek State Park near Polk City.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that two-year-old Celeste Sandoval-Ramos was the individual emergency crews pulled from the water at around 8:45 p.m. Saturday. When deputies arrived on scene, Polk City Rescue was attempting life-saving measures. She was in critical condition and was life-flighted to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. She passed away Tuesday at the hospital. The incident is currently under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The Polk City Police Department, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and Polk County Conservation assisted at the scene.

Funeral services for Sandoval-Ramos will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care in Perry. Visitation services are at 9 a.m. Friday, with burial at Violet Hill Cemetery. A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to support the family. Click the link below to visit the page.
