Discover Space

The Perry Public Library and Hometown Heritage are teaming up for a program this Monday featuring a space-themed visitor.

On Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Carnegie Library Museum, the library’s “Discover Space” Adult Summer Reading Program will welcome Sarah Weyer for a discussion on her history at NASA. Hometown Heritage Research Assistant Alissa Whitmore explains the gravity of the special guest. “Sarah Weyer is a former Perry resident, and she worked as a contractor for NASA editing technical manuals. So these would be the documents that would be used in Mission Control when assisting astronauts. And her story is really fascinating, basically she’s someone with a Perry tie who worked in this capacity with NASA. And of course, when she was doing this, this was in the days before we had computer word processing programs. So it’s really a phenomenal task that she was involved in!”

During the event, Weyer will share specific memories of the space program, and will then take part in a question and answer session. There is no cost to attend, and no registration is required.
