WCV (1)The West Central Valley School Board met in regular session Wednesday.

The Board began the meeting by discussing insurance providers for the upcoming fiscal year. Through her research and interactions, District Business Manager Symantha Crawford firmly believes the Iowa Public School Insurance Program (IPSIP) is the best option going forward. However, some Board Members voiced their concerns about leaving their current provider, the Iowa Association of School Board’s Safety Group Insurance Program. There was no formal action taken on the matter as two Board Members were absent. There will be a special meeting on Monday to approve the district’s insurance provider going forward.

During public forum, several district employees spoke out and read letters in support of Denise Barrett, a cook whose contract was not renewed for the upcoming school year. No formal action was taken on Barrett’s contract. The Board also officially accepted the resignation of Christine Stiles as a Board Member due to moving out of the district she represents. Two individuals have expressed interest in filling the vacancy.

Other action items approved include: an overnight trip request for a summer football camp at Simpson College, maintaining current milk and break providers, the 2018-2019 fee schedule, a teacher sharing agreement with Earlham Community Schools for middle school art, and 2018-2019 salary recommendations.

The July meeting will take place at West Central Valley High School in Stuart.
