When in comes to outdoor recreation, there are plenty of options in Guthrie County. One of them is fishing. WIth Lake Panorama and the Raccoon River system winding its way through the county, there are several spots to try your hand at the classic pastime. However there are some regulations to keep in mind.
All anglers sixteen years of age and older must have a fishing license. Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Jeremy King says that goes for both public and private property. “It’s going to be important to know, that the day you turn sixteen, you need a fishing license. That not only goes for the Raccoon River, but also for any private farm pond that you’re fishing or any other stretch of river along private property. If you don’t own it, the day you turn sixteen you need that license.”
King also reminds those who partake in fishing to be aware of limits in both number collected and weight. He says that not only applies to fish, but frogs and turtles as well. To hear more on fishing guidelines, listen to today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
