For the first time in more than a decade, the Dallas County Fair will feature an exhibit competition that is open to everyone.
Dallas County ISU Extension and the Fair Board are encouraging the public to take part in this year’s Open Class in photography. Extension Director Jeff Jackson says the competition is being sponsored by the Waukee Area Arts Council, and will include three different categories. “There’s farm or rural life, there’s animal or wildlife, and then there’s just general open. Although they (the Fair Board) don’t want to see how good you are at Photoshop, they said this is for photography, not those Photoshop experts. Photos can be up to 11×14, and the rules are available on the Dallas County Fair Board’s website. They’re pretty much standard to what the State Fair uses for their photo submissions.”
Jackson adds, there’s no cost to enter your photographs and those taken on cell phones are welcome, but you are limited to three total submissions. There are two age groups, one for 17 and under, and the other for 18 and older. Additionally, $100 prizes will be awarded to each first place submission. All pictures must be entered by this Monday in order to be eligible. For more information, stop in or call the Extension office on the Dallas County Fairgrounds, at 515-993-4281.
