Two people face charges following a weekend incident in Dana.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio that just before 1am Sunday, a homeowner called about a suspicious vehicle parked in his residence in the 200 block of Anyer Street. Williams notes that when the homeowner approached the two individuals inside the parked vehicle, the couple fled. The 2002 Pontiac Montana they were sitting in was found to be allegedly stolen out of Ames. Williams says Boone County Deputies were in the area and initially responded with their K-9 unit. A Greene County Deputy also responded.

As the K-9 unit tracked the suspects, a deputy noticed the female passenger was hiding in a swimming pool and arrested her. Twenty-five-year Leah Kurt faces a Story County Class D Felony charge for first degree theft of the vehicle, and additionally faces misdemeanor charges in Greene County for her first offense for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. The driver, 22-year-old Justice Pritchard of Boone got away. Williams says arrest warrants have been applied for Pritchard charging him in Greene County with a misdemeanor for operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent.

The stolen vehicle has been impounded. Kurt was booked and released from the Greene County Jail. Williams adds that once Pritchard is apprehended, he will also be booked into the Greene County Jail.
