The runner-up of Iowa’s Class 2A High School State Golf Tournament is spending part of his summer playing in multiple Junior Iowa PGA tournaments. Since late April, Panorama incoming junior Kolby Shackelford has competed in six events on the Junior Iowa PGA circuit, winning three tournaments. His latest victory came last Wednesday at the 36-hole Des Moines Junior event at the Willow Creek-Red Golf Course in West Des Moines. Shackelford bested the 27 person field by three strokes, winning the tournament with a one over 143. He’s also claimed the Legacy Junior Academy Invitational title on July 2, and tied for the individual championship of the Junior Tour Summer Kick Off at the Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa on June 4. Shackelford was the Panthers No. 1 golfer last season, advancing to the Class 2A State Golf Tournament in Marshalltown as an individual. He finished the 36 hole state event with a three-over 145, one shot behind Dike-New Hartford’s Bo Weissenfluh for the individual state championship.
