corn intersectionNow that most corn stalks have reached their highest point of the growing season, it gives motorists another challenge when out on the roadways.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says he and his deputies see more of an increase in vehicle wrecks during this time of year because of the tall corn blocking intersections.

“Normally about this time of year, we have three or four accidents that are involved just with people can’t see around the corners, due to the tall corn. We inevitably have accidents.”

To help avoid getting into a wreck, Williams suggests these helpful tips, especially on rural gravel roads.

“Most of the gravel roads are uncontrolled intersections. So make sure you yield to the right and slow down to make sure that the other car sees you in time. If anything just come to a complete stop when you get up there to the intersection to make sure no one is coming.”

Williams also says it’s always good to be a defensive driver when approaching an uncontrolled intersection where tall corn prevents you from seeing around the corner.
