Grant Purchases STEM KitsIf you haven’t already checked out the newest additions to the children’s department at the Jefferson Public Library, there are some creative kits that kids can use.

Children’s Librarian Terry Clark says they received three grants to purchase several educational programs and kits for youth. A Jefferson Elks grant allowed Clark to purchase seven Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) kits. She describes the AWE program with a grant from the Greene County Community Foundation.

“It’s an after school, edge learning station for children ages 6 to 12-years-old. It has a touch screen with a mouse and it gives children a chance to explore educational games in a variety of educational areas ranging from reading and language arts to math and science.”

The final grant was through the Jefferson Rotary Club. Clark says they purchased additional STEAM kits, along with kids-safe iPods, electronic kits, magnetic blocks and mechanics kits. She adds that all of the newest items can be found in their “makerspace” area.

“We call our’s the ‘Innovation Station.’ It’s a place to create, invent, dream, design, connect, collaborate, ask questions and problem solve. Just get inspired and having fun overall doing different activities and projects.”

The items are available for all area youth. Stop by the Children’s Department to use the new items.
