severe thunderstorm

A line of severe thunderstorms passed through Dallas, Greene, and Guthrie counties Wednesday evening, bringing with it some instances of hail.

At 6:55 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southwestern Greene, northern Guthrie, and southeastern Carroll County. The primary threats were 60 mile-per-hour straight-line wind gusts, heavy rainfall, and up to golf ball-sized hail. A hail stone measuring nearly two-inches was reported in Ralston, and Raccoon Valley Radio received video footage of a pea-sized hail storm in Scranton. However, there was no report of damage from the storm in our primary listening area.

The first warning was allowed to expire at 7:30 p.m., but another warning followed at 7:40. The second warning affected southern Greene, northeastern Guthrie, and northwestern Dallas County. The threats were the same as the first storm, but there were no reports of hail falling in the second system. The latter warning was allowed to expire at 8:30. Six members of the Raccoon Valley Radio Severe Weather Action Team, as well as Weather Eye meteorologists contributed to live coverage of the storm. Whenever severe weather threatens our listening area, count on Raccoon Valley Radio to keep you informed and safe.
