Whiterock Conservancy in Coon Rapids will be hosting the annual meeting of the Iowa Prairie Network this weekend. The meeting begins tomorrow at 6pm at the River Campground with a savanna restoration hike until 8. The night concludes with a campfire from 8-10pm.
On Saturday there will be seminars from 8-11am at the Bur Oak Visitors Center on a variety of topics, including: history of the conservancy; insects in relation to Science-based Trials of Rowcrops (STRIPS); and wetlands. The annual meeting and a tour of the conservancy will follow from 11am-noon along with lunch from noon-1pm. The afternoon concludes with hikes from 1-4:30pm.
Saturday concludes with an evening dinner beginning at 5:30pm, followed by a tour of Dedham’s Diversity Farms’ prairie reconstructions. Additional hikes wrap up the weekend on Sunday from 7am-noon. The event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration for the meals is encouraged.
