Jeff Lamoureux starts his second season as girls and boys cross-country coach for the Greene County High School teams. He saw Haley Hall, a 2018 senior, qualify for the Class 2A State Meet, and he watched as the girls missed out on qualifying as a team by less than 10 points.
Official practice began today and the coach talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the girls’ team. “We should be pretty good on the girls’ side. Now, we do anticipate moving from Class 2A back up to 3A because of renewing the cross-country sharing program with Paton-Churdan. We have to county the both enrollments for classification purposes. There were no girls running last year at P-C, and we had no Greene County eighth graders run cross-country last year, but we had a strong sophomore class last season, and those girls are juniors this year. I believe most of them will be back out, and a few girls that didn’t run cross-country last year have expressed interest in going out this year.”
Coach Lamoureux will give his views tomorrow on increasing the number of boys out for the sport. Paton-Churdan is back sharing cross-country with Greene County after an absence of several years. The boys’ team may see a small bump in numbers because of the sharing program.
