Friday, August 3rd

4:01am: Billie Jo Hovick reported a stray dog on her porch at 507 West Harrison Street. The officer made contact with the animal’s owner. Who was out looking for his dog. The owner picked up the dog.

7:27am: An officer investigated an accident at Maple and Lincoln Way Streets. A 2005 Chevrolet Impala, owned and operated by Paige McCarty of Perry, left the posted stop sign on Maple Street and struck an oncoming vehicle on Lincoln Way Street. The 1998 Ford Explorer, owned by Shelly Gilbertson and operated by Whitney Campbell both of Scranton, was struck in the side by McCarty. The McCarty vehicle had a reported $1000.00 to the front, while the Campbell vehicle had a reported $3000.00 in damages to the driver’s side. McCarty was cited for, “Fail to Obey Stop Sign.”

7:47am: A caller advised of a dog lying in the grass in the 500 Block of West Clark Street. The officer contacted the animal’s owner and gave her a time period to become compliant with animal licensing.

9:14am: Nicole Tasler advised a neighbor was allowing his dog to defecate in her yard at 806 West State Street and refused to clean up after his animal. The officer is working to contact the neighbor and speak to him about the matter.

9:35am: An officer assisted EMS with a Medical Call in the 1200 Block of Westwood Drive.

3:05pm: An officer issued a Parking Violation in the 500 Block of West Clark Street for, “48 Hour Parking Violation.”

4:30pm: Richard Tuhn advised he was missing his small Terrier from 407 North Wilson Ave.

6:08pm: Sparky’s One Stop reported a Gas Drive Off from 606 Hwy. 30 East for $22.58. The officer is investigating.

8:10pm: A caller advised of a female who had fallen in Kelso Park. The officer arrived and made contact with the female. Kathleen Specht, 59 of Jefferson, was arrested for, “Public Intoxication 3rd or Subsequent – Aggravated.”

10:59pm:Jordan Teeples reported hearing a female screaming for help in the area of the 700 Block of South Wilson Ave. The officers did not locate anyone in the area.

Saturday, August 4th

6:09am: An officer checked on an Alarm Activation at 1500 North Mulberry Street. All appeared fine at the business and the alarm was reset.

7:57am: An officer checked on an Alarm Activation at 403 West Head Street. The building was secure and a key holder was notified.

8:27am: An officer spoke to a resident at 8 Park Ave. South about concerns for a family member in Des Moines.

9:47am: A postal worker advised of a kitten trapped in a window well at 106 West Harrison Street. The officer was able to free the kitten.

5:53pm: A caller voiced concerns about a semi hauling hay bales that are leaning to the side on Hwy. 4, south of Jefferson. The officer did not locate the vehicle come through Jefferson.

9:15pm: Bradlee Beadle spoke with an officer concerning a Civil Property Issue occurring at 506 South Wilson Ave.

10:51pm: A Traffic Stop in the 100 Block of South Cedar Street resulted in Melinda Gallagher of Jefferson being cited for, “Operation without Registration.”

Sunday, August 5th

10:05am: Bill Dunivan reported the Municipal Swimming Pool was overflowing again at 710 South Maple Street. The officer contacted the pool manager to fix the issue.

4:51pm: Maurice Wistenberg reported kids riding a minibike on the street in the 700 Block of West Washington Street. The officers spoke to a parent and advised the bike would be impounded if on the street again.

8:20pm: An officer assisted a lost motorist with directions to Fort Dodge.

Monday, August 6th

12:15am: An officer assisted a motorist with mechanical problems in the 200 Block of North Cedar Street.

9:58am: Officers were called to the Super 8 Motel at 207 West Gallop Road for an intoxicated female refusing to leave the property at check out time. EMS assisted the officers in transporting the female to ER to be evaluated by a medical doctor.

10:10am: Mark Naberhaus reported a parked vehicle blocking the lane in the 200 Block of South Elm Street. The vehicle was gone before the officer’s arrival.

10:20am: Cassie Fowler reported a downed wire near Wilson and Russell. A tree branch had fallen and brought the cable wire down. Jefferson Telecom was contacted.

11:17am: Dairy Queen reported a careless Driver leaving 507 North Elm Street. The officer did not locate the vehicle.

11:45am: Marvin Book reported a stray dog in the 500 Block of East Vest Street. The officer did not locate the animal.

5:07pm: Denny Healy reported a Burglary at 500 South Wilson Ave. Subjects broke into the residence and removed 2 handguns and a locked safe. Two suspects have been developed and the investigation continues.

6:04pm: ER requested officers to assist with an unruly female patient.

6:38pm: Julie Smith spoke with an officer with concerns for her daughter’s safety, who lives in Grimes. The officer advised Smith to speak to authorities in Grimes.

7:05pm: An officer spoke to a subject in the 300 Block of West Washington Street, who was burning construction debris in an open fire. He was advised he could only burn yard waste in the city limits.

7:07pm: The Hamilton Car Wash reported a Criminal Mischief had occurred at 902 North Vine Street. The owner had made contact with a male subject who spray painted in the wash bay and they agreed to clean up the mess. No assistance was needed by the officer.

9:34pm: A Traffic Stop was performed in the 1400 Block of North Elm Street. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Hayley Lynn Brown, 25 of Jefferson for, ‘OWI 1st Offense – Serious, Stopping on Paved Portion of Highway, Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability, and Fail to Obey Stop Sign.”
