greene county historical societyNomination papers are now available for interested individuals that want to be on the November general election ballot.

According to the Greene County Auditor’s office, any major political party in Iowa including Republican, Democratic or Libertarian and who does not have a candidate on the ballot for a political office must be nominated through a special nomination convention, ahead of the filing deadline of August 29th at 5pm. However, any individual may run with no party affiliation, but must get a minimum of 65 signatures to appear on the ballot.

Available seats in Greene County include County Supervisor Districts 2 and 3, County Treasurer, Recorder and Attorney. Currently the individuals running for those seats include: for Supervisor District 2 is Republican incumbent Dawn Rudolph, Supervisor District 3 is Republican incumbent Tom Contner, County Recorder is Democrat incumbent Marcia Tasler, County Attorney is Libertarian candidate Thomas Laehn and for County Treasurer it is Democrat incumbent Donna Lawson against Republican challenger Katlynn Gannon-Mechaelsen.

There are other non-political seats available for the November election, which include Greene County Extension Council, Greene County Medical Center Board of Trustees, and Greene County Soil and Water Commission.

Papers need to be filed to the Greene County Auditor’s office by 5pm on August 29th.
