As the Iowa State Fair continues, results are starting to pour in for Greene County.
As you might have guessed, Jefferson resident and State Fair regular Marianne Carlson has already begun snatching up top honors in the food categories. She won first place and a $100 cash prize in the Iowa’s Best Biscotti competition, and she also claimed an overall second place finish and $200 in the Nostalgic Comfort Food Contest. Carlson placed third and received $75 for her peach pie and was awarded Honorable Mention in the Mom’s Perfect Little Cookie Contest. Finally, she took home the Sweepstakes award as she claimed four first place and two second place honors in the various bread contests.
There were other results from the State Fair as well, like Aiden Anderson of Paton who placed second in the youth division for the Weed Identification Contest. Greene County Extension Director Lori Mannel talks about another area in FFA where a Greene County participant did well.
“Congratulations to Abby Badger. She received the FFA Reserve Champion Purebred Breeding Gilt (Award). So lots of exciting things happening at the Iowa State Fair with Greene County connections.”
