2017 Perry Public Safety Day
2017 Perry Public Safety Day

Don’t be alarmed Saturday morning if you see all sorts of emergency vehicles in the Perry Hy-Vee parking lot. They’re just there for the annual Perry Public Safety Day.

Police Chief Eric Vaughn says the event is a way for all the public safety entities to show the community where their money is going. “Each department brings some vehicles, brings some equipment that we use on a day-to-day basis. Like we bring squad cars, the Public Works brings their big dump trucks, EMS usually comes and brings things, the Fire Department brings trucks and stuff. So people can come and look at the vehicles, (to) get an up-close examination of kind of what the citizens in Perry help pay for. And just get an understanding of what those costs are, and what we actually use that equipment for.”

Vaughn adds, Public Safety Day is also a great way for citizens to interact with the public servants, giving them a chance to see the faces behind the scenes. Also, the Life Flight helicopter is scheduled to make an appearance at the event, as long as it’s not responding to an incident. Public Safety Day will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., and there is no cost to attend.
