The Guthrie County Historical Village and Museum will be hosting another service activity aimed at restoring headstones at a local cemetery. The Foundation will once again be repairing and cleaning headstones at the Greenwood Cemetery just one mile east of Panora on Saturday, September 22nd from 9am-noon.
Foundation Board Member Rod Stanley says the turnout at the first event was positive and they’re looking forward to going back out there. “Overall I think we probably fixed between 20 and 25 stones, either cleaning them or repairing them in one way or the other. There’s a lot more work to do out in that Greenwood Cemetery…People were really excited about the work that they did and there’s a lot of gratification when you start working on stones that are 150-years-old.”
Registration is requested so that the Foundation can provide enough tools and supplies. To hear more about the project and other topics at the historical village, listen to Stanley on Monday’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
