The City of Jefferson is hosting their annual hazardous waste drop-off event tomorrow.
It will take place on the north side of the downtown square from 9 to 11am. Some of the items accepted include antifreeze, oil- or lead-based paints, gasoline or kerosene, pesticides, used oil filters, sharps or needles, aerosol cleaners and paints, plus several other items. Items that won’t be accepted include propane tanks, electronics, medications, radioactive materials, ammunition, asbestos, explosives, latex paint, and fire extinguishers.
City Administrator Mike Palmer says the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off is for Jefferson residents only and the process is convenient and easy.
“Volunteers will check you in and as you move up the line, you don’t even need to get out of your car. Just pop your trunk open or if in a pickup truck, the volunteers will take it out for you.”
The City partners with Metro Waste Authority every year to put the event on for free for residents. Anyone with questions may call City Hall at 386-3111 or Metro Waste Authority at 1-888-603-CREW. A complete list of what is and is not accepted can be found below.
