Greene County RamsAs the 2018-19 school year officially starts next week for the Greene County School District, several fall sports programs have been underway with practices ahead of their respective seasons.

One new face is at the helm of the Rams volleyball program and that is head coach Chris Heisterkamp. She takes over for longtime coach Donna Carhill, who retired from teaching and coaching at the end of last school year. Heisterkamp has several years of experience coaching volleyball, as she started her career in seventh grade, then moved up to ninth grade within the Jefferson-based program, before coaching in Gowrie with what is now Southeast Valley School District. She talks about why she enjoys coaching volleyball.

“It’s a very complicated game. It looks easy but once you get out there, there’s so much thinking involved, and strategy, and quick decisions. And I just love the fast pace and the high energy.”

The Rams had a 7-27 win-loss record last year. The season starts next Thursday at home in the middle school gym against Perry and Fort Dodge St. Edmund in a triangular starting at 5:30pm.
