There have been a lot of great memories over the past 20 years for Perry swim coach Jean Dowd. The best part is she is hoping to add even more over the next 20. On Thursday, Dowd will begin her 20th year serving as the head coach of Perry swimming when the Jayettes host Algona in a 6:30 showdown at the McCreary Center pool.
“It really is impossible to narrow down to one or two top memories,” smiled the veteran coach. When pressed a little bit harder, she finally gave in.
“Coaching my daughter (Christina) and watching her compete at state was a really special moment. Also, Breanna’s (Pennenger) incredible performance last year in the 500 was something that I will never forget.”
Dowd will lead a team of eight swimmers this year through a tough schedule that begins tomorrow in Perry.
