Last week’s opening matches of the 2018 high school volleyball season saw the West Central Valley Wildcats fall in straight to the AC/GC Chargers (20-25, 16-25, 17-25) last Tuesday and the Woodward-Granger Lady Hawks (8-25, 20-25, 9-25) last Thursday. The Wildcats registered 16 kills in each match last week and saw their serve efficiency raise from 68% against AC/GC to over 90% against Woodward-Granger. West Central Valley volleyball coach John Jones joined the Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports Page Monday night to discuss week one of the regular season. He praised one senior in particular for her positive attitude last week. “I got one senior, Haley Nizzi, who doesn’t get down on anything,” Jone said, “She bounces up really fast and (is) a real positive girl. It’s getting that mindset of putting everything together and staying positive and upbeat. It’s good to have a Haley Nizzi on your team who’s always looking for the bright side of things.”

Jones said the Wildcats also heard words of encouragement from Superintendent Lance Ridgely last Friday at practice. The West Central Valley Wildcats varsity volleyball team continues their West Central Activities Conference season tonight hosting the Earlham Cardinals. The varsity match serves at 7 p.m. in Stuart.
