On a very warm and windy Monday, Greene County’s cross-country girls and boys took part in the first year Woodward-Granger Invite at Jester Park. A small meet, there were six schools involved with only four complete teams. Coach Jeff Lamoureux’s Rams were third in the girls’ team race and fourth on the boys’ side.
Top 10 finishers earned medals and the Rams had two girls and one boy accomplish that. Kassie Lamoureux was third in 23:20 for the five kilometers (3.1 miles) and Conner Allender was fifth in 24:31 for the girls. Logan Woodruff was 10th in the boys’ race in 19:44, followed closely by teammate Jack Bryson, 11th in 19:56.
W-G won the girls’ team title with 40 points, edging Baxter with 40. The Rams had 51 points and Coon Rapids-Bayard scored 84. Saydel (Des Moines) was the boys’ winner with 28 points, followed by W-G with 55, Baxter 65, and 77 for Greene County.
Coach Lamoureux added that eight of the 16 Rams bettered their times from the season opener last Thursday. Next up for Greene County is the West Central Valley (Stuart) meet on Aug. 30 near Menlo at the 5 x 80 Golf Course.
