Jefferson City Council 8_28The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.

During open forum, resident Dick Finch addressed the Council on two issues. He told the Council he thought it was irresponsible of them to spend money to install a frontage road near Wild Rose for a proposed truck stop. He thought that would cannibalize the current truck stop to the east of Wild Rose. He also told the Council that if there is a building permit that was approved by the City for construction near the northwest drainage pond, that he would sue the City because he said he has proof that Wild Rose is illegally draining onto his farm ground.

Resident Arthur Hardman asked the Council about installing stop signs at the intersection of Harrison Street and Grimmell Road, due to increased traffic. He believes motorists are choosing to drive through that intersection instead of stopping at the controlled intersection on Lincoln Way and Highway 4. Police Chief Mark Clouse said he will look into that matter. Another resident, Melinda Millard asked about looking out for individuals driving irresponsibly on golf carts, for children safety. Clouse said he will also look into that matter as well.

The Council approved to reclassify lots in the Greene County Development Corporation east business park along Gallup Road from Light Industrial to Highway Commercial. The Council also approved to reclassify lots in Blocks 23 and 24 of the Albert Head’s Addition, which are owned by Greene County, from Residential to Light Industrial. Both reclassifications were placed on first reading to change their respective ordinances and also had the second and third required readings waived with final adoption approved.

The Council also approved a plat of survey for a property on North Mulberry Street and set the budget priority workshop for September 25th during the regular city council meeting. Finally, the meeting ended with a quarterly report with Jefferson Matters: Main Street. Each committee updated the Council of their respective activities and previewed any upcoming events.
