The Greene County Community Center recently underwent a renovation project to one of the original interior structures.

The gym floor was 20 years old and Jefferson Parks and Recreation Director Vicky Lautner says it went beyond its life expectancy, so they purchased a new Sport Court floor for $60,900 from Sports Construction Midwest in Adel. It is the same product that was used in the community center when it was first built in 1998. Lautner points out the funding for the project came from a grant from Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation for $45,900, and the rest came from People Active in Community Exercise (PACE) and hotel/motel tax.

She says there has been nothing but positive comments made about the new floor so far.

“We have received so many compliments. People didn’t realize the floor was in such bad shape. Now that we see the new floor and there’s been several people just walking on the floor and say, ‘Boy you can really tell the difference.’ Like I’ve said, I’m glad that we got it taken care of before we actually had to.”

Lautner adds that the floor is basically the same color as the old floor, but it doesn’t have as bright of colors on some of the lines. She believes the new floor isn’t as confusing for when games and matches take place.
