welcome centerEveryone is invited to a special presentation in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institute’s traveling exhibit, Hometown Teams, while it’s in Jefferson.

The University of Iowa Women’s Archives will be at the Thomas Jefferson Gardens Education and Welcome Center this Saturday for a program on their exhibit of “Girls 6-on-6 Basketball.” Representatives will discuss the history of the sport. Jefferson Matters: Main Street Program Director Peg Raney describes another aspect of the program, which the public can get involved with.

“Part of this presentation is they’re here to collect local girls basketball photos, and look at memorabilia, and hopefully scan some of those pictures and add it to their collection. So we hope that people get their shoe boxes out of pictures, and scrapbooks, and those kinds of things, and be able to come and share.”

She adds that there is a limit of five to six items per person. The program will be at 1pm and it is free and open to the public.
