Perry City Council 8-6

The Perry City Council recently held discussion about this year’s open burning dates, and a decision was ultimately reached to allow burning within City limits between October 31st and November 20th.

City Administrator Sven Peterson says that’s likely to be the window of opportunity for open burning moving forward, though the Council will continue to monitor how well people are adhering to it. “We just wanted to make sure that people weren’t outside trying to enjoy their patio or something like that and getting smoked out from leaf smoke from their neighbors and stuff like that. So hopefully people can get along and be smart with how they burn their leaves. And if you know that you have a neighbor that does have health issues that’s affected by smoke, just try and be a good neighbor, be courteous, and wait for the wind to be blowing in a direction away from them.”

Peterson adds, in the past the City has extended the open burning dates, so depending on weather they may allow burning for a few weeks after Thanksgiving. However, City staff also encourages residents to take advantage of the weekly yard waste pickup, which will run through the beginning of December.
