Greene County Supervisors 9_10The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday.

During open forum, the Board continued an ongoing discussion about the negotiations with the Greene County School District regarding a 28E agreement of contributing up to $5 million to the career academy. Assistant County Attorney Thomas Laehn said the money will only be used on the physical building that the school district will own. However, the County must first approve an urban renewal plan before the 28E agreement can be approved.

Also during open forum, Central Iowa Community Services Local Director Patti Treibel-Leeds spoke to the Board regarding services. She said they have a full class for an upcoming training for adult mental health first aid in October. She talked about a new 90-day transitional program that is starting up at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames for those individuals needing to be stabilized before getting integrated back into their community.

The Board then approved the County Treasurer’s investment report of $4,513,080 for August and issuing 398 driver’s licenses last month. Additionally, the Board approved a land lease agreement with Verizon Wireless to install a new cellular tower at the law enforcement center. The contract is for five years, and can be renewed for another five, for up to 25 years. Verizon has also agreed to pay the County $6,000 in annual fees for operation of the tower and installing upgraded equipment for law enforcement for another $9,000 flat fee.
