This week is designated as National Farm Safety and Health Week to encourage motorists to be more aware of farm implements on the road, as well as farmers to be alert of their surroundings as harvest season begins.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams reminds motorists that farm equipment moves at a much slower speed on the roadways and take up quite a bit of room on the road. “If you’re going to pass any farm implements just make sure you are doing it in a safe manner and not on hills. We’re well aware that they are slow and easy to pass, but you never know what’s coming over that next hill.”
He adds that if you see farm implements going across a bridge, to allow it to pass first because most of the equipment is just as wide as the bridge. Williams also recommends to wait until farm equipment gets beyond a field driveway, because it can be tough to determine which way they will turn off of the roadway.
